Simone Liebster, née Arnold, was born on August 17, 1930, in Alsace, where she spent her childhood years. After surviving the period of Nazi terror described in her book, Simone followed in the footsteps of her father, Adolphe, as a student at Mulhouse art school, specializing, like him, in fabric design.

In 1952 she graduated from the Watchtower Bible School of Gilead and has since served as a full-time Bible educator in France. She married Max Liebster, a former concentration camp internee, in 1956.

In 1989 Simone Liebster became a founding member of CETJAD (Cercle Européen des Témoins de Jéhovah Anciens Deportés et Internés) and now lectures widely on the Witnesses’ experience of surviving Nazi persecution. She has spoken at a about human rights at the European Parliament in Strasbourg and at another one in Brussels, held by the Council of Europe. She has lectured about her experiences in over 50 cities in England, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the United States.
